Seven Network presenter Grant Denyer will be actively involved in this weekend’s Supercheap Auto
Bathurst 1,000 - all in the comfort of his living room.
“I have a hospital bed fitted with
front and rear spoilers, air jacks, slick tyres and my own personal pit crew on stand by – so I
am ready for 4 days of Bathurst action – without the weather extremes.” Denyer said.
Following 2 weeks of intensive care, Grant was released from hospital last week and faces another 8 weeks
flat on his back recovering from a monster truck landing that shattered a vertebrae into 7 pieces. He
is unlikely to race again this year, and will spend the next 3 months recuperating.
“I have
some limited movement, so long as I wear a full torso back brace, however the specialist says if I want
to race again, then it’s flat on the back instead of flat - chat on the track.”
Grant
was set for his biggest Bathurst yet, competing in 3 different series – the Mini Challenge, of which
he is leading in the Decorug Mini, the Fujitsu V8 Supercar series, and the Bathurst 1,000 in the Ford
Rising Stars Falcon.
Matthew White will take over the Summit Fleet Leasing/Playstation Ford for the Fujitsu races, which
will be televised live on Friday and Saturday afternoons on SEVEN, Nathan Geier will race the Mini and
Karl Reindler has been drafted in to co-drive with Michael Patrizi in the Ausdrill/FRS Ford.
“
All are great steerers in their own right and you can bet they will still hear me calling the action
from home, however I wish them all well and hope they have a super weekend.”
Grant is expected
to make a full recovery, however is under strict specialist supervision for at least the next 12 weeks.
The Summit Fleet Leasing/Playstation Ford will be on display outside Dick Smith Electronics in Bathurst
this Tuesday and Wednesday. Matthew White will be signing and handing out team posters between 1
and 2 pm on both days.
And Grants race tips for the big one – “as the Doc proved,
I bleed blue so it has to be a Ford victory – Lowndes/Whincup, or Richards/Winterbottom, although
I would love to see Will Davison and Steve Richards take the win and I think it might be Dick’s
year”
