Mad Dog back to Bathurst for It Takes 3!

SEVEN television personality Grant Denyer returns to Mt Panorama Bathurst this weekend for the WPS Bathurst 12HR Showroom Enduro.

Grant will reunite with Tony Quinn and son Klark in the VIP Petfoods
Mitsubishi Evo 9 for a serious crack at outright victory in the gruelling 12 hour race for basically standard production cars.

“ We all drove together in the 2003 Bathurst 24HR race, finishing second in the class and 6th outright – so it’s great to be back with the team the helped kick start my racing career. Tony backed my ute at its first Bathurst appearance on 2002, where we put it on pole and finished on the podium” Denyer said.

The father and son VIP combo recently won the Dubai 24 Hour race in a Porsche and are one of the hot teams for this weekend’s event. Team manager will be Alan Heaphey, a vastly experienced professional who has worked for the Nissan factory team in Europe, various front runningV8 Supercar teams and now runs the Ralliart factory race team in Australia.

Grant drove in the 07 12 Hour race for the Subaru factory team, qualifying fourth and leading for the first 2 hours until brake issues slowed the car.
A wheel bearing failure late in the race also cost time, however together with Neil Crompton and Chris Alajajian, went on to finish 5th and third in their class.

“Bathurst is just the best – you can’t get enough of the place and every lap you learn more about the circuit. Endurance races are really special on the Mount as all the dynamics constantly change – the weather, the conditions, the track surface – where the kangaroos cross the track – to get it right is very rewarding and to finish on the podium this weekend is our goal.”

The race is timed to start at 6.30 am Sunday, finishing 12 hours later, then Grant heads back to Melbourne for his first live programme of the year, It Takes Two, commencing on Tuesday night.
